The Republic of Somaliland witnessed a historic moment today as its newly elected President, His Excellency Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro), and Vice President, Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi, officially assumed office following their constitutional swearing-in.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the Presidential Palace, brought together a distinguished audience, including the leadership of the Houses of Elders and Representatives, former President Dahir Rayale Kahin, Chief Justice Adan Haji Ali Ahmed, Attorney General Abdirahman Jama Hayan, and representatives from the international community. Among the international delegates were ambassadors from the United States, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Turkey, Taiwan, and Ethiopia, along with the President of the Somali Regional State. Traditional leaders, prominent politicians, and other honored guests were also present to mark the occasion.
Speaking on behalf of the international delegations, U.S. Ambassador Richard H. Riley commended Somaliland’s democratic elections and the peaceful transfer of power. He lauded Somaliland for its exemplary commitment to governance and democracy.
Chairpersons of the Houses of Elders and Representatives, Hon. Suleiman Mohamoud Adan and Hon. Yasin Haji Mohamoud Hir (Faratoon), praised the outgoing administration for its achievements and extended their support to the new leadership. They urged citizens to unite and collaborate with the incoming government to achieve national objectives.
Former President Dahir Rayale Kahin highlighted the importance of unity and solidarity among Somalilanders. He called upon the nation’s leaders to prioritize cohesion and development while avoiding actions that could cause division.
Outgoing President Muse Bihi Abdi delivered a reflective speech, recounting the accomplishments of his administration. He congratulated the newly elected leaders and expressed confidence in their ability to steer the country toward greater progress.
In his inaugural address, President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro) articulated his vision for a united, prosperous Somaliland. He emphasized his dedication to justice, equality, and sustainable development, urging collective efforts to overcome challenges.
“I call on all Somalilanders to join hands in building a harmonious and inclusive society. Together, we will forge a path toward justice, equality, and progress for our nation,” stated President Cirro.
Addressing concerns in the eastern regions, President Cirro reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to peace and reconciliation. He pledged to establish an unconditional platform for dialogue and peaceful resolution of disputes. “My government is committed to promoting peace in the eastern regions by initiating dialogue and fostering reconciliation. This approach will ensure peaceful coexistence, facilitate trade and cooperation, and pave the way for lasting stability. What unites us is far greater than what divides us,” he declared.
