The 127th session of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Somaliland, presided over by President Muse Bihi Abdi, focused on coordinating election preparations for the current year and the nation’s broader strategies concerning finance, security, and the increasing incidents of traffic accidents.

During the session, Acting Minister of Interior Abdullahi Hussein Mohamed provided a detailed briefing on security matters, encompassing the security landscape within the country and the Horn region. The council was also briefed on the upcoming commemoration of the 34th anniversary of the Republic of Somaliland on May 18, highlighting mobilization efforts both domestically and internationally in support of Somaliland’s independence aspirations.

Additionally, Ministers of Finance Development, Dr. Saad Ali Shire; Planning and National Development, Ahmed Mohamed Diriye (Toorno); Agricultural Development, Ahmed Mohamed Habbane; and Health Development, Hassan Mohamed Ali (Hasan Gaafadhi), presented comprehensive reports outlining their respective portfolios and the planned initiatives for the upcoming year.

After thorough deliberation and analysis, the council outlined vital points concerning the future of the country:

  1. The establishment of a national development fund from 2025, overseen by the ministries of finance development, planning, and national development.
  2. Reiteration of previous decisions stipulating that development projects received from the international community should not be subcontracted, and entitlements should be directly allocated.
  3. Addressing the current population of 6.2 million residents in the Republic of Somaliland, with a commitment to providing comprehensive services.
  4. Urgent legal actions to address recurring factors contributing to traffic accidents, involving the formation of a committee comprising the Ministry of Transport and Road Development and relevant security agencies.
