The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Muse Bihi Abdi, today inaugurated a major handover ceremony for the Borama, Las Anod and Gabiley town plans prepared by the Somaliland Ministry of Public Works, Lands and Housing.
The ceremony, held at the Presidential Palace, was attended by the President, the Vice President, members of the Cabinet and the Urban Planning Committee, parliamentarians, general managers, engineers, officials from the Ministry of Public Works, Lands and Housing and other dignitaries. The forum focused on the importance of having a clear plan for the expansion of the various cities in the country and the efforts made by the ministry to reach a point where these designs can be transferred today.
First, experts from the Ministry of Public Works, Lands and Housing, gave a presentation on the modern design of the towns of Borama, Gabiley and Las Anod and the benefits of the plans prepared for these cities, which will greatly benefit the local community and improve their quality of life.
The Director General of the Ministry of Public Works, Lands and Housing, Mr. Abdillahi Mohamed Mohamud (Jiidhe) who spoke at the event, explained in detail the efforts made by the ministry to make this work possible, and noted that the towns of Borama, Gabiley and Las Anod are now in the process of designing their own cities.
The Governor of Sool region along with the Mayors of Hargeisa, Borama, Las Anod and Gabiley, addressed the gathering and welcomed the new plans and designs for these towns, and hailed the move by the Ministry of Public Works, Lands and Housing as a success.
Similarly, Chairman of the Public Works Committee of the House of Representatives, Hersi Abdillahi Hirsi Eng. Mohamud Ghedi, an expert in urban design along with a team of experts from the Ministry of Public Works, Lands and Housing, described the new urban plans as a step towards the overall success of the Republic of Somaliland, and enhancing the beauty and prestige of the towns of Borama, Gabiley and Las Anod.
Speaking at the event, the Ministers of Interior, Mohamed Kahin Ahmed, Youth and Sports, Abdirashid Duale Qambi, commended the Ministry of Public Works, Lands and Housing for the new design and layout for Borama, Gabiley and Las Anod, and suggested that other cities in the country be redesigned and reorganized.
The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Muse Bihi Abdi, who officially inaugurated the event, welcomed the progress made by the Ministry of Public Works, Lands and Housing and thanked all those who have been involved in the design work in Borama, Gabiley and Las Anod. In his remarks, the President said, “I would like to thank the Ministry of Public Works and Engineers. I would also like to thank all those who participated in this event, and especially the young people who have produced such amazing works, and I hope you are all committed to designing all our cities in such a beautiful manner.”
Finally, the President handed over the town plans prepared by the Ministry of Public Works, Lands and Housing to the mayors of Borama, Gabiley and Las Anod to be implemented.
