Somaliland: President Chairs Cabinet Ministers Meeting

The fourth session of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Somaliland was convened under the chairmanship of His Excellency the President, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Cirro), and attended by His Excellency the Vice President, Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi. The meeting focused on critical national priorities essential to the advancement, stability, and prosperity of the Republic.  

During the deliberations, His Excellency the President received detailed briefings from members of the cabinet on a range of key sectors, including national security, economic development, social welfare, and livestock exports, the latter being a cornerstone of Somaliland’s economy.  

The Minister of Internal Security provided an update on the country’s security situation, affirming that the Republic continues to enjoy peace and stability.  

The Minister of Finance and Economic Development presented a comprehensive overview of the national economy, emphasizing measures to optimize revenue collection, enhance tax administration, and reinforce fiscal discipline. The Minister stressed the imperative of self-reliance in economic management and announced the formation of a joint committee comprising representatives from the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank of Somaliland. The committee will assess the current economic challenges, including inflation and currency volatility, and propose actionable solutions.  

The Minister of Livestock and Rural Development delivered a report on the state of livestock exports and the associated challenges. He highlighted the sector’s pivotal role in underpinning the national economy, noting that Somaliland exported 3,718,966 livestock—including sheep, cattle, and camels—over the past year.  

The Minister of Health provided an update on the healthcare sector, outlining efforts to enhance access to essential medical services and improve emergency response capabilities, including in the areas of medicine supply, transport, and workforce capacity.  

The Minister of the Presidency presented the government’s 100-day action plan, which aligns with the six pillars of the ruling party’s political agenda. He underscored the administration’s commitment to delivering measurable progress and impactful initiatives that address the needs and aspirations of the citizens of Somaliland.  

In his concluding remarks, His Excellency the President directed all cabinet ministers to align their activities with the government’s strategic objectives and the ruling party’s political platform. Each minister was tasked with submitting a comprehensive report within 15 days, detailing ongoing and planned projects, funding sources, and the anticipated benefits to the public.
