His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Somaliland, Musa Bihi Abdi, participated in a wide-ranging celebration and dinner event, held at the presidential palace complex, to mark the 31st anniversary of Somaliland’s Independence Day.
The President was accompanied by the Speakers of the House of Representatives and Parliament, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Cabinet Ministers, and a number of high-ranking gov’t officials. The ceremony also attracted distinguished guests from neighboring countries and the International Community, to mark and celebrate this special occasion with the Republic of Somaliland.
Today is May 18, 2022- the 31st anniversary of the day we have reclaimed the sovereignty of the Republic of Somaliland. It is a day of celebration throughout the country in which Somalilander`s rejoice in the prosperity and peace we’ve achieved on our own.
During festivities at the Somaliland presidency, several popular Somali bands have performed a number of patriotic songs that brought back the memories and struggles of the old days as our people fought to reclaim their independence.
The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Musa Abdi, who delivered a comprehensive speech to the people, first congratulated them on the commemoration of the national day of 18 May, and sent special congratulations to the various forces of the country who today celebrated the national day.
The President further went on and pointed out the time and resources that Somalilanders here and abroad have devoted to commemorate their nation.
In his remarks, President Bihi said, “ On this special occasion of 18 May, I wish the people of the Republic of Somaliland success, prosperity, development and lasting peace. And once again, I commend the good people of Somaliland for the commitment they’ve shown to commemorate their independence day wherever they are in the world. The past year has been a tumultuous year for Somaliland, as we presented our statehood to many governments around the world, resulting in tangible results. All thanks to Allah.”
Finally, President Bihi spent the rest of the evening dining with the guests at the Presidential Complex.
